Fulfillment Sources Explained
When a sales order line needs goods, or a work order step needs materials, you tell Fast2Task where those goods will come from. This is called fulfillment, and the same five sources are available in both places. Understanding them once pays off across the whole system.
Stock
The goods are already on the shelf. You choose which stock location to take them from, and that quantity is committed from stock. This is the default choice for anything you hold in inventory.
Purchase Order
You need to buy the goods in. Fast2Task can create a new purchase order to the product’s supplier, or add the line to an existing open purchase order for that supplier, which is handy when you’re accumulating items for the next order. The fulfillment stays linked to the purchase order line, so when the goods are receipted you can see they were bought for this specific order.
Work Order
You need to make the goods. Fast2Task creates a work order (from the product’s bill of materials, if it has one) to produce the required quantity. The fulfillment is linked to the work order, and you can track production progress from either side.
Kit
The product is a kit: a bundle assembled from component products at fulfillment time. Fulfilling a kit line draws the components from stock rather than the kit product itself.
Non-stock
No physical goods are involved (services, labour, freight, fees), or you simply don’t want stock tracking for this line. Non-stock fulfillments satisfy the line without touching inventory.
Auto-fill
Rather than fulfilling line by line, use Auto-fill. Fast2Task proposes a source and quantity for every unfulfilled line, using stock where it’s available and suggesting purchase orders or work orders where it isn’t. Review the proposal, adjust any line’s source or quantity, then confirm to apply the whole lot at once.
Partial and mixed fulfillment
A single line can be fulfilled from more than one source (for example 6 from stock and 4 on a purchase order). Each fulfillment records its own quantity, and the line shows how much remains outstanding.
Changing your mind
A fulfillment can be removed while it’s still just a plan. Once goods have been shipped or invoiced against it, the fulfillment is locked; you’d need to deal with the shipment or invoice first. Fast2Task warns you before deleting anything that has downstream documents.
