Production, Completion and Costing

Production is where the plan meets the workshop floor: steps get worked, materials get consumed, time gets logged, outputs get counted. Completion & Costing then compares what happened against the plan and locks it in.

The production dashboard

The top of the Production section shows the run at a glance:

  • Progress: percentage complete and the current step (or all steps complete)
  • Outputs: produced so far vs expected
  • Labour hours: logged vs expected
  • Materials: consumed vs required

Steps are worked in order unless the work order allows steps out of order.

Working a step

Expand a step to see its instructions, materials, tasks and time entries.

Consuming materials

Each material shows required and consumed quantities. Enter actual consumption as it happens, or use Autofill to set consumed = required for a material (or for the whole step) when the run went to plan. Dynamic products are consumed like any other material once resolved during sourcing.

Logging time

Tasks show progress as time entries accumulate. Click Add Time to log work: select the task, who performed it, and the start and end times. Entries can be edited or deleted later via Manage Work Order Step Time, so a forgotten timer isn’t a permanent problem.

Time entries drive the labour cost side of the work order’s costing, so accurate times mean honest job costs.

Recording outputs

In the Outputs section, record the quantity produced for each output as it comes off the line (and Add Output for anything unplanned, like extra by-product). Save Outputs receives the produced quantities into stock.

If this work order is fulfilling a sales order (or a parent work order) and your produced quantities differ from plan, Fast2Task shows Update Linked Fulfillments. Review the current vs new quantities and update the linked documents in one step, or skip if you’ll handle them manually.

Completion & Costing

When all steps are complete, the final section sums up the run:

  • Yield: produced vs expected quantity
  • Actual cost vs expected, and cost per unit
  • Margin: cost against sell price (% of sell)
  • Labour hours vs expected
  • Material consumption and labour tables: searchable line-by-line detail with totals
  • Completion date

Use Recalculate Costing to refresh the numbers after late changes (a supplier invoice arriving with different prices, an edited time entry).

Closing the work order

Close Work Order finalises the run: costing is locked and the work order leaves the active list. If something surfaces later, Reopen Work Order unlocks it for correction, then close it again.
